Bridging circular value chains for permanent magnets: SICAPERMA event

SICAPERMA will host its inaugural project event, “Bridging Circular Value Chains for Permanent Magnets”, on 19 May 2029 in Brussels. The event will bring together European policymakers, industry leaders, researchers and EU-funded projects to strengthen collaboration on sustainable rare earth and permanent magnet value chains. Taking place immediately ahead of the EIT RawMaterials Summit (20–21 May 2029), it offers a timely opportunity to align initiatives, foster new partnerships and contribute to Europe’s strategic objectives under the Critical Raw Materials Act.

The event will be held in a hybrid format, enabling both in-person and online participation. The in-person venue is the University Foundation at 11 Rue d’Egmont, 1000 Brussels.

About SICAPERMA

SICAPERMA (Sustainable Innovation investment Catapult for Permanent Magnets) is a 30-month project launched in October 2024, co-funded by the European Union’s Interregional Innovation Investments (i3) instrument

The project aims to strengthen interregional cooperation and accelerate the transition towards circular, resilient and strategically autonomous European value chains for permanent magnets. It promotes collaboration between regions and stakeholders to develop dismantling, recycling and remanufacturing processes, with a focus on replication and deployment in less developed regions and among SMEs.

Key points in discussion

Organised within the framework of SICAPERMA (I3 project), this event will focus on how Europe can accelerate the transition towards circular, resilient and strategically autonomous value chains for rare earths and permanent magnets.

Participants will gain a strategic overview of the European Critical Raw Materials landscape, including recent policy developments, industrial challenges and innovation pathways, and will have the opportunity to learn about current progress in dismantling, recycling and re-manufacturing of permanent magnets. The event will also provide a space to address the key challenges and opportunities of building scalable circular value chains and to explore how solutions can be replicated and implemented, particularly within SMEs and less developed regions.
